Dr Dre, DJ Quik, Tha Dogg Pound, Rodney-O & Joe Cooley Pay Homage to OG LA Hip Hop Radio Station K-DAY.

KDAY Honorz: The event celebrating 40 Years of hip hop went down this week. The 2 hour show included KDAY looking back at 40 years as the nation’s FIRST all-hip hop radio station with a massive celebration, featuring performances by DJ Quik, Tha Dogg Pound and Rodney O & Joe Cooley…as well as interviews with 1580 KDAY legend Greg Mack and original Mixmasters Julio G and Battlecat.

Busta Rhymes, Ice Cube, Terrell Owens, Ashanti, Tiffany Haddish and MANY more surprise guests showed up in saluting four decades in the game. The event was hosted by KDAY family Cece, Romeo, PJ Butta and Corrie Renee.

Xzibit also shared a video of Dr Dre thanking the Legendary radio station KDAY (now known as KBLA) on its 40-year anniversary.

“I have so many reasons to thank KDAY, but I’ll just give you a couple of them right now,” Dre began. “KDAY was the first station that gave me an opportunity when I was a young and up-and-coming DJ. They gave me my own radio show, which was called The Traffic Jam, and I showed up every weekday at 5 o’clock, and every artist out there knows what this is like … the first time you hear your shit on the radio — the feeling is amazing.”

“Not only that, KDAY was the first station to play the first song I ever produced on my own, which was ‘Boyz-N-The-Hood,’ so I can’t thank them enough. So I’d like to say happy 40th anniversary, KDAY, and I really, really appreciate this honor. You’re a part of my history, a part of my legacy and you’re the springboard to what I’ve become today. Thank you!”
