Cholita & Popcaan – ‘Never Come Down’ Video + ‘Broken Promises’ EP

Today, fast-rising Jamaican artist Cholita releases her debut EP, Broken Promises, out now via MIXPAK. The 6-track project arrives alongside the official music video for “Never Come Down” featuring dancehall superstar Popcaan, a major co-sign and testament to Cholita’s growing influence in Jamaica and beyond. The release also follows Cholita being nominated for the Caribbean Music Awards’ “Best New Artist” award, in addition to her sold-out debut live performance in Kingston, marking a major hometown moment for one of the island’s most exciting new voices.

Made between Kingston and Los Angeles alongside producer Dre Skull — whose credits include Burna Boy, Popcaan, and Vybz Kartel — Broken Promises introduces Cholita as an island girl deep in her feelings. Across the EP, she moves through heartbreak, suspicion, disappointment, back-and-forth love, and the self-confidence that comes after finally seeing things clearly.

The project resists easy genre labels, landing instead as global pop grounded in dancehall and the Caribbean tradition of bass-driven, body-moving music. With features from Popcaan and Skillibeng, Cholita pulls from the island’s musical foundation while shaping something distinctly her own: hypnotic, sensual, emotionally direct, and built to move.

On “Never Come Down,” Cholita links with Popcaan for one of the EP’s defining moments. The accompanying video brings that tension to life visually, placing Cholita fully in her world as she continues to establish herself as one of Jamaica’s most exciting new voices.

With early support from Zip FM, BBC Radio 1, and Hot 97, alongside co-signs from Jamaican press and major global playlists, Cholita enters this next chapter with clear momentum. Coming off a sold-out debut live show in Kingston and a debut EP featuring Popcaan and Skillibeng, Broken Promises is both an introduction and a statement of intent from an artist with a sharp point of view, a deep musical inheritance, and a sound built to travel.
