Shungu Releases New Album ‘Faith in the Unknown’ ft Pink Siifu, Liv.e, Navy Blue & more + New Video
Brussels-based artist and producer Shungu releases his new album ‘Faith in the Unknown’ via Lex Records. The album, which brings together a curated community of like-minded artists, voices and sensibilities to bring Shungu’s vision to life, including Pink Siifu, Liv.e, Navy Blue, Maxo, dreamcastmoe, Fly Anakin, Goya Gumbani, Fatima, Chester Watson, Ruqqiyah, and ZEKEULTRA. Alongside the album’s release, Shungu is also sharing a new video for album track “Butterfly”, (SEE BELOW) which features ZEKEULTRA, following previously-released singles “Last Time” featuring Liv.e, “Talk to the Mass” featuring Fly Anakin, Goya Gumbani and Fatima, and “Stay Alive” featuring Pink Siifu.
“ZEKEULTRA and I first connected musically three years ago, and everything we’ve made together since has led to the Babel Tower album he released recently,” Shungu says. “But this track ‘Butterfly’ is actually the first one we ever made together. He’s the kind of artist I can really explore with. I send him all kinds of instrumentals, even the less conventional ones, and I can never predict which one he’ll choose. It’s always unexpected. Making music with him feels like creating free-form rap, no rules, just pure expression.”
Shungu will also be embarking on a series of European live shows this month. Beginning next week in London at Ormside, he’ll be playing shows across Berlin, Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam throughout the month.
“The process of making this album “took time, and it grew into something very human, rooted in trust, patience and creative risk,” Shungu explains. “It’s also a kind of introduction to a scene I feel close to, a space where experimentation meets vulnerability. I hope the record resonates beyond the surface and invites people to reflect, feel, and question. These songs are conversations, not just between me and the artists, but between worlds, eras, and ways of feeling.”
Shungu has carved out a singular space for himself as an innovative, revered voice in the underground hip-hop landscape, blending jazz-infused sampling with cosmic grooves, along with establishing a Detroit-indebted house alter ego Senga. That personality and distinct ear for instrumentals has cultivated a sense of community across his records with the likes of Pink Siifu, Fly Anakin, YUNGMORPHEUS and more finding a home in his beats. The Belgian producer has served as an accomplished custodian of this community for years, playing the role of an artist who is both deeply rooted in the underground scene and a pioneering force in driving it forward.
