Mass Appeal and Marvel Team Up to Debut Limited Edition ‘Legend Has It…’ Comic at New York Comic Con 2025
Mass Appeal has joined forces with Marvel for a first-of-its-kind comic book collaboration: the debut issue of Legend Has It… It’s a limited edition series that re-imagines Hip Hop’s biggest icons as larger-than-life superheroes. Inspired by the Legend Has It… album series, the comic spotlights seven of New York’s most influential artists – Nas, DJ Premier, Ghostface Killah, Mobb Deep, Raekwon, Big L, De La Soul, and Slick Rick.
Blending Marvel’s signature storytelling with Mass Appeal’s cultural legacy, Legend Has It… pays tribute to Hip Hop’s enduring influence through a bold new lens. Written by Brandon Thomas (Black Lightning) with artwork by Sanford Greene (Doom, Bitter Root), the series fuses music, myth, and legacy into a must-have collectible for fans of Hip Hop, comics, and pop culture. The first issue cover features stunning art by Greene.
“Working with Marvel on this comic is a celebration of Hip Hop and its legacy,” said Nas. “There’s a story we tell through our music, and seeing that energy come alive on these pages is a tribute to the culture that shaped us and continues to inspire generations.”
Legend Has It… #1 will make its official debut at New York Comic Con on October 10th at the Javits Center. The launch will include a marquee panel, “Comics and Hip-Hop: A Marvel x Mass Appeal Conversation,” where Nas and surprise guests will explore the creative intersections between Hip Hop and superhero mythology. Fans will get a behind-the-scenes insights from both the artists and Marvel creators during this one-time-only event.
To mark the launch, Mass Appeal will also host a takeover of Whatnot’s live shopping stage, Whatnot House, on October 10th from 5:30–7:00 PM ET. Fans will have the first chance to purchase an exclusive variant edition of the comic, alongside other collectibles, signed merch, and surprise guest appearances. The event will feature live auctions, on-the-spot interviews, and can’t-miss drops broadcast directly from Whatnot House (Booth #1000) on the Javits Center floor.
