South Florida Rap legend Uncle Luke has regained ownership of the music catalog he created as a member of the legendary hip-hop group 2 Live Crew.
The decision, handed down by a federal court earlier this week (Oct 16), marks a significant milestone for the artist after decades of legal battles.
Uncle Luke, whose legal name is Luther Campbell, lost control of the music catalog during a bankruptcy proceeding in the 1990s.
The copyright reverted to the creator after 35 years, and Campbell filed a lawsuit against the label that had acquired the rights to the catalog.
Campbell expressed his gratitude for the court’s decision, emphasizing the importance of artists being compensated for their work.

He also acknowledged the significant impact the music had on his children and the children of his late group members, Brother Marquis and Fresh Kid Ice.
