Real Bad Man and TOBi Announce New Album + Share Lead Single.
LA-based producer Real Bad Man and multi-JUNO Award winning artist TOBi announce their new collaborative album The Perfect Blue, out November 14th via Real Bad Man Records. Alongside the announcement, the duo are also sharing the album’s lead single “When I’m Home” and a corresponding blue-hued music video directed by Marissa Blair. The single encapsulates the eclectic nature of the duo’s collaboration across this album, bringing unsuspecting new elements of their artistry out of each other. Real Bad Man’s versatile palette of production blends into Neo-Soul on “When I’m Home”, matched by a silky, pitched-up vocal delivery by TOBi that weaves between rapping and singing.
The Perfect Blue is a capstone moment for a wildly prolific 2025 for Real Bad Man, who released collaborative albums with ZelooperZ, Boldy James, Willie The Kid and Genevieve Artadi over the course of the year. His work with TOBi is eclectic and boundless, jumping from straightforward and unflinchingly personal rap moments, to uptempo dancefloor-ready jams and R&B moments that challenge the Toronto native to confidently dive into singing hooks with conviction. The Perfect Blue initially begin as a straightforward rap record and through their chemistry in the studio, the album opened up their freedom to explore uncharted territory for them both.
Nigerian-born, Toronto-raised artist TOBi has carved out a distinct lane for himself with a celebrated discography of releases that explore themes of vulnerability, self-reflection and contemporary masculinity with a pointed nuance. His 2023 album PANIC swept the rap categories (Best Rap Album, Best Rap Single for “Someone I Knew”) at the 2024 JUNO Awards and his catalog has been praised by the likes of Billboard, Rolling Stone, i-D and more. Expanding on his ELEMENTS project series with the second volume released earlier this year to high praise, The Perfect Blue cements TOBi’s bonafides as an adept collaborator.
Having established himself as an accomplished stalwart figure in underground hip-hop, Real Bad Man is proving with each new project this year that his production can’t be limited by genre and his work adapts to the artist he’s working alongside. From the experimental electro-pop and new wave influence of Everything Is Under Control with Genevieve Artadi, to the tripped-out psychedelia of Dear Psilocybin with ZelooperZ, it’s now clear that Real Bad Man has a versatile repertoire deserving of an equally diverse set of collaborators.
