Legendary Juice Crew member, T.J. Swan has died. He was 57. Cause of death has yet to be revealed. We will keep you updated.
Roxanne Shante, a member of Juice Crew, shared the news on social media.
“We are so sad to Announce the passing of our Hip Hop Brother TJ Swan,” the post read. “The original Balky Shirt King.”
A post on Swan’s Instagram story also read, “Great evening everyone. This is TJs Daughter and I have some unpleasant news to share today. This morning TJ Swan has passed away, keep my family in your prayers in this horrible time. – Mz Apple.”

T.J. Swan helped shape the sound of ’80s hip-hop, becoming one of the first vocalists to collaborate on rap music. Swan was introduced to the Juice Crew by the one and only Biz Markie, Swan’s distinct voice elevated hits like MC Shan’s ‘Left Me Lonely’ and Biz Markie’s ‘Make the Music with Your Mouth Biz’ and ‘Nobody Beats the Biz.’ His vocal contributions played a significant role in the success of these records.
The Juice Crew, founded by DJ Mr. Magic and supported by Cold Chillin’ Records, was a groundbreaking collective from Queensbridge, New York. Members such as Roxanne Shante, Big Daddy Kane and Kool G Rap helped shape the New School era, paving the way for an enduring legacy in hip-hop.
