A son of rapper DJ Quik was convicted Thursday of second- degree murder for the shooting death of a man in Downey just over 3 1/2 years ago.
David Marvin Blake Jr., who turned 31 on Friday, was found guilty of one count each of second-degree murder and shooting from a motor vehicle, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
Jurors also found true gun and great bodily injury allegations against Blake, who is facing up to 40 years to life in state prison, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
Blake is set to be sentenced Feb. 6.
The charges stem from the May 25, 2022, fatal shooting of Julio Moises Cardoza Jr. after a fight broke out between Cardoza and another man in the 13200 block of Carfax Avenue, near the San Gabriel River, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
Blake, who was in a car nearby, fatally shot Cardoza and then drove away, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
The 33-year-old victim, who suffered multiple gunshot wounds, died that day at a hospital, according to records from the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office.
Authorities said Blake was arrested the next day. S: Downey Patriot
