Hip-hop pillars Nas and DJ Premier have long teased that a full-length collaborative album has been in the works. To celebrate the result of that iconic partnership. Liaht- Years, which arrives on December 12, New York’s DJ Green Lantern has assembled an exclusive mix that puts together pieces of the duo’s past work.
“The thought process behind this mix was to highlight the chemistry between Nas and DJ Premier, and how Nas would sound over classic Preemo beats on a whole mix project,’ DJ Green Lantern tells Apple Music.
“Some standouts are the mix of Nas’ ‘Got Ur Self a Gun’ vocals with Gang Starr’s ‘Who Got Gunz,’ making the samples on the chorus ‘talk’ to each other while keeping the subject matter consistent. Also Jeru’s ‘Da Bichez’ beat was perfect for Nas’ ‘Money Is My Bitch’ vocals. I wanted to make sure I used a majority of the classic Premier beats and paired them with the right Nas verses to make this concoction really come to life.”
