Cautious Clay, born Joshua Karpeh, is an American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist known for his genre-blending music, which mixes alternative R&B, hip-hop, and indie pop. He gained initial recognition with his 2017 song “(ColdWar)” and has since built a following with his heartfelt, vulnerable lyrics and a sound that incorporates both organic and digital instruments. He is a prolific artist who plays multiple instruments, including the flute, which he began learning at age seven, and has collaborated with artists like Taylor Swift, John Mayer, and Billie Eilish.
