Tupac Murder Trial Delayed Until Next Summer.

A judge has rescheduled the trial for the man accused of orchestrating the murder of Tupac Shakur for next summer.

Duane “Keffe D” Davis, 62, faces a murder charge for the rap icon’s 1996 shooting death. Davis has remained in custody since his arrest in September 2023.

Clark County District Court Judge Carli Kierny has postponed the trial several times at the request of Davis’ attorneys. Over the summer, Davis hired new attorneys to represent him. In August, those attorneys said they believed they would be prepared for trial in February.

Last month (November) In court, Kierny rescheduled the trial for August 2026.

In his 2019 book and in online interviews, Davis has publicly said he was sitting in the front passenger seat of the car, which pulled up side-by-side with Shakur’s, before the shooting near the Las Vegas Strip. Marion “Suge” Knight, the then-head of Death Row Records, was driving the car with Shakur sitting in the passenger seat. Knight was injured in the shooting. Shakur died from his injuries several days later.

Davis’ attorneys have said not to believe their client’s public statements.

In January, Kierny declined to dismiss Duane Davis’ case over arguments from his prior attorney that Davis had received immunity protection in prior interviews. In that hearing, Kierny noted Davis’ book led prosecutors to investigate and bring the case to a grand jury. She noted the lack of physical evidence and witnesses created an “uphill battle” for them.

In previous court filings, Arnold said Davis entered into several proffer agreements with federal and local officials regarding information about Shakur’s murder. Davis again entered into a similar agreement during a Los Angeles Police Department interview, documents said. Prosecutors have stated that any proffer agreement in Nevada would have had to be reviewed by a judge.

Davis is incarcerated at High Desert State Prison after a jury found him guilty last spring for fighting with another inmate inside the Clark County Detention Center. A judge sentenced him to 16-40 months in prison for the fight. S: CBS Vegas
