Luminate Launches New Tool That Measures Music Artists’ Influence for Brand Deals.

Today, Luminate, the entertainment industry’s most trusted data partner, launched its new Luminate Index, designed to accurately measure a music artist’s influence for brand partnerships and beyond.

The tool is fueled by Luminate’s industry-leading streaming data, which comes directly from all major streaming platforms including Spotify, Apple and Amazon, along with its global consumer research insights, and provides a final influence score for each artist, taking into account five key areas: the artist’s music streaming footprint, the artist’s social media footprint, public awareness of the artist, public appeal of the artist, and overall fan engagement in relation to the artists live shows and other events.

The data-backed model was constructed for brands, agencies, labels and others to use it as an informative asset in evaluating the benefits of each artist when it comes to partnerships, endorsements, marketing campaigns, creative integration and beyond.

The announcement comes alongside the news of Luminate’s new deal with Sony Audio, which sees the company providing high-level, data-driven insights and consultation to the latter. Specifically, Luminate is tasked with aligning deeper cultural connections between the brand with relevant audiences across all forms of entertainment.

Speaking on the news, Rob Jonas, CEO, Luminate, shared, “Existing at the center of all things entertainment and data, Luminate is uniquely positioned to see and analyze information that is invaluable in identifying cultural trends. Beyond measurement, a job we take very seriously when it comes to verifying final data for the weekly Billboard Charts and the new Streaming Original Charts with Variety, we are a company that can extract insights across all areas of entertainment and fan engagement. Our goal with this new tool is to provide artists, brands, labels, talent representatives and more with intelligence that will allow them to make more informed business decisions.”

“As an audio brand heavily focused on music, entertainment, and culture, verifiable proprietary data has never been more important given the current speed of trends,” says Jordy Freed, Head of Brand, Business Development & Strategy, Personal Entertainment Business, Sony Corporation of America. “Luminate is a proven leader in harnessing data and insights to demonstrate tangible customer behavior across music, film, and television. We are incredibly excited to be a ‘Day-One’ Luminate brand partner, which equips us with invaluable tools to strengthen our cultural compass and benchmark our investments connecting to fandoms.”

Today’s news continues a landmark year for Luminate in its expansion as an entertainment data source and partner for a myriad of industries, including music, film, television, digital media, consumer goods, gaming, live events, finance and tech. In addition to the elevation of its authoritative music reports, which have recently been covered by everyone from Goldman Sachs and The Wall Street Journal to Good Morning America, Axios, and CNN, the company also introduced its first-ever Year-End Film and TV Report, shedding light on production trends following the 2023 SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. The company reached another notable milestone in its expansion into the film and TV industries, launching its Streaming Viewership (M) product, alongside its partnership with Variety for the outlet’s Streaming Original Charts, which uses the product to fuel a weekly look at the most viewed original series and films across all of the major streaming platforms including Netflix, Hulu, Amazon’s Prime Video, Max, Apple TV+, Peacock, Paramount+ and AMC+. The product also earned Luminate a spot on Fast Company’s prestigious Most Innovative Companies in the World list for 2024. And in February, the company announced another expansion of its product offerings with the acquisition of Quansic, a global leader in music metadata management.

Luminate also further solidified its position as a world-class thought leader with its inaugural Data + Entertainment Summit in Los Angeles this past April. The invite-only event brought two hundred of the entertainment and tech industries leaders together for a day of curated programming that saw speakers from Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, Hulu, The Recording Academy, Roc Nation, SoundCloud, CAA, Lionsgate, Sony Pictures, Deezer and more. Details on the 2025 edition of the summit will be revealed in the coming months.
