Megan Thee Stallion has won a court ruling dismissing a copyright lawsuit on her hit Savage.

Last year, the star rapper was accused of ripping off a little-known 1999 track on the song.

The lawsuit, filed last year by producer James A Greene, claimed that Stallion’s mega-hit infringed the copyrights to his 2020 song, It’s About To Be On.

He claimed Savage producer J White Did It had access to the earlier track via his manager, as reported by Billboard.

However, Judge Katherine Polk Failla ruled that there was insufficient evidence to prove that claim and dismissed the lawsuit, finding no evidence the superstar had even heard the instrumental track.

There was, she said, no evidence that Megan or Warner had access to Greene’s track, which was not widely distributed, and there was no substantial similarity between the songs’ instrumentation, drum patterns or vocals.

Savage was first released in March 2020, as part of Stallion’s EP Suga. It went viral on TikTok, with people performing the Savage dance challenge during the song’s chorus.

A remix featuring Beyoncé was released in April 2020, and included on Megan’s debut album Good News of that same year.

Savage Remix reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 on 26 May 2020, becoming Megan Thee Stallion’s first and Beyoncé’s seventh number-one hit.
