The Savannah rapper known as Quando Rondo will serve 33 months in federal prison after a sentencing hearing on Wednesday afternoon.
The Savannah native, whose real name is Tyquian Bowman, pleaded guilty to federal drug conspiracy charges back in August. The sentencing was more than Rondo’s defense was hoping for, the defense asking the judge for 24 months while the prosecution asked for 37 months.
Rondo told WJCL 22 News’ Tia Maggio in an exclusive interview that he’s grateful for the outcome.
“As crazy as it sounds, that’s enough time to really sit down (and) rehabilitate myself. Come up with some better plans; come out and move forward for my family and friends,” Rondo said.
In a statement to the judge, Rondo said he wants to be a better role model for his fans: “I did the wrong thing. And I’m getting punished for it. So, I want you to know that you actually get punished for doing wrong things. Just do the right thing.”
This sentence is concurrent with any sentences that may arise from his Chatham County charges.
In addition to the prison sentence, Bowman must pay a $40,000 fine and serve three years of supervised release once his prison term is complete. During that time, he must undergo regular drug tests and participate in mental health treatment. He also cannot communicate with known gang members.
Bowman must report to prison by January 10. He will serve time either at the Jesup or Estill prisons. S: WJCL
