Following an intimate listening party to preview the album for fans at Silence Please in NYC last week, Brooklyn’s singer, songwriter and producer frau releases her debut album flutter via Spoonerism. Made in partnership with executive producer brand0 (Elphi, RYL0, ChiChi; developer of audio plugins used by umru and Charli xcx), flutter is a tender exploration of the nuances of human connection, embracing intimacy in her songwriting and the portraying the chaotic spectrum of emotions that come through moments of closeness in the production. The album features additional production by Michael Deano (Remi Wolf, Daniel Caesar).
Like its namesake, the album impulsively ventures in many different directions sonically, following the instinctual nature of frau’s songwriting and following the arc of her connection to self and others. Spanning frantic melodic pop, honeyed, twilit electronic confessionals and singer-songwriter ballads, flutter represents the broader spectrum of frau’s own experiences richly represented in her writing, but also the limitless potential of her musicianship.
