girlsweetvoiced – ‘Energizer’

girlsweetvoiced announces her highly anticipated debut project, Lovesweet, due July 24th, and shares her new single “Energizer.”

Hailing from Ottawa, Canada, girlsweetvoiced first captured audiences through her distinct tone and refreshing blend of folk and pop genres. First posting short-form videos to tease her original songs, her March single “Tonight” has organically gained traction since its release, both for her striking voice and its notable sample of Joni Mitchell’s “California,” which was approved by Mitchell herself after girlsweetvoiced wrote her a letter asking for permission to use the sample.

Her name draws inspiration from the ancient Greek poet Sappho, who wrote nearly 10,000 lines of lyric poetry (though only fragments have survived), including the phrase “girl sweetvoiced.” Much like Sappho’s work, girlsweetvoiced’s music explores themes of the female experience, love, yearning, and loss. Her latest tracks, “Energizer,” paired with previously released offerings “spearmint” and “slowbird,” highlight her ear for production and ability to craft relatable yet remarkably crafted lyrics.

Despite having limited formal musical training, aside from childhood piano lessons, she has developed a raw, distinctive style through minimalistic, self-produced beats that showcase her signature sonic and visual palette. Under the guidance of collaborators such as Michael Uzowuru and Mike Furlong, she draws inspiration from artists including Joni Mitchell and Frank Ocean to create music that blends pop sensibilities with her singular perspective.
