Chance the Rapper will kick off the 10-year anniversary celebration of his seminal project, Coloring Book, with a series of limited screenings of the Magnificent Coloring World concert film at Rooftop Cinema Club in Chicago (May 16), New York (May 20), and Los Angeles (June 20). Tickets go on sale today, May 4.

The screenings at Rooftop Cinema Club will be the first public opportunity for fans to enjoy a shared viewing of Magnificent Coloring World, followed by a live Q&A with Chance. The limited run also serves as the opening moment in a broader anniversary rollout.

Originally filmed in 2016, Magnificent Coloring World is a fully realized visual extension of the Coloring Book era. Directed by Jake Schreier and filmed at Chicago’s historic Cinespace, the project blends live performance with stylized set design, immersive lighting, and theatrical staging to create a cohesive visual world rooted in the themes of joy, faith, and community that defined the Coloring Book era. The film had a run of preview screenings in 2021 and is now back for the 10-year anniversary alongside Rooftop Cinema Club.

Featuring live renditions of fan-adored tracks like “No Problem,” “Blessings,” and “Same Drugs,” the film brings together a range of collaborators from the Coloring Book universe. Rather than capturing a traditional concert, Magnificent Coloring World was built as a fully staged production, with intentional set design, lighting, and movement, similar to acts in live theater. Each performance is carefully blocked and visually composed, blending live instrumentation, choir arrangements, and ensemble staging to reflect the gospel-influenced core of Coloring Book. Chance’s attention to detail in the film’s production, combined with its key collaborators, allows it to capture not just the music but the full experience of the Coloring Book era in a way that feels both expansive and personal.

Released in May 2016, Coloring Book was monumental not just for Chance but for the entire independent music landscape. Breaking barriers as the first streaming-only album to win three Grammy Awards, it signaled a seismic shift in music consumption and what was considered “legitimate.” The album’s vibrantly blended soundscape of gospel, hip-hop, and soulful instrumentation delivered a message of optimism and community that resonated deeply, brought to life through standout contributions from collaborators including Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Kirk Franklin, Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, T-Pain, and Saba. Anchored by Chance’s longtime creative partners Nico Segal (formerly Donnie Trumpet), Peter Cottontale, and The Social Experiment, alongside additional production from Kaytranada, Brasstracks, and Francis and the Lights, the project fused live instrumentation with contemporary rap in a way that felt both expansive and experimental.
