Sunday Vibes: cktrl Drops Debut Album ‘spirit’

Bradley Miller, known artistically as cktrl, releases his debut album, spirit, via R&R. The British multi-instrumentalist pushes his sound into new territory—bold, genre-defying, and deeply intimate. Inspired by a bell hooks quote, “Healing is an act of communion,” this sentiment serves as a guide throughout the project, emphasizing that true recovery from pain is rooted in connection and community. spirit is cktrl’s first full-length album since 2022’s EP yield.

Ahead of the album release, cktrl shared two singles, “rush” and “balance,” highlighting his signature blend of soulful production, fluid horns, and delicate strings. Both songs showcase a deeply personal and spiritual approach to music-making. “Our spirit is our light, and without it, it’s just dark,” says cktrl.

Born and raised in South London and of Jamaican and Montserratian heritage, cktrl (pronounced “control”) is a self-taught producer and classically trained clarinetist whose music blends classical, ambient, jazz, and R&B influences. Through acclaimed releases such as Robyn, zero, and yield, he explores themes of love, healing, vulnerability, and Black identity—crafting work that is both culturally rooted and emotionally expansive.
