The “2023 Billboard Music Awards” (BBMAs) will take place on Sunday, November 19. Unique among music award shows, winners are determined by performance on the Billboard charts, the ultimate authority and measure of success in music. For nearly 30 years, the “Billboard Music Awards” have showcased spectacular performances, unexpected collaborations, buzzworthy pop culture moments, and the prestigious ICON Award, which honors record-breaking artists and their impact on music.
This year’s awards are based on music consumption reflected on Billboard charts dated November 19, 2022 through October 21, 2023. “Billboard Music Award” winners are based on key fan interactions with music, including audio and video streaming, album and song sales, radio airplay and touring.
Taylor Swift is leading with 20 nominations for the 2023 Billboard Music Awards, followed by SZA and Morgan Wallen, who each have 17 nominations in a total of 16 categories.
Other nominations include the Weeknd, a finalist for 16 awards with 17 entries; Drake, who’s up for 14 awards; and Zach Bryan, who’s battling with 14 nominations in 13 categories.
The winners will be revealed Nov. 19. It was previously announced that the show will not have any traditional broadcast component this year; rather, the awards and performances (which are yet to be announced) will be rolled out on the social channels for Billboard and the BBMAs.
Nine new categories were added this year: Top Hot 100 Songwriter, Top Hot 100 Producer, Top Rock Duo/Group, Top Global K-Pop Artist, Top K-Pop Tour, Top K-Pop Album, Top Global K-Pop Song, Top Afrobeats Artist and Top Afrobeats Song.
The 2023 Billboard Music Awards are being produced by Dick Clark Productions.
