France’s President Emmanuel Macron has bestowed the title of Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur (Knight of the Legion of Honour) on musician and Louis Vuitton men’s artistic director Pharrell Williams in recognition of his contributions to the creative industries.
At a private ceremony at Paris’ Élysée Palace on Friday, Macron presented Williams with the order’s insignia, Louis Vuitton shared in an email communication with FashionNetwork.com. The award was initially announced on July 14, 2025 and its presentation at the palace’s Winter Garden comes just three days after Williams sent his latest menswear designs down the runway at the Fondation Louis Vuitton during Paris men’s fashion week.
Williams attended the award ceremony with his wife Helen Lasichanh, with whom he shares four children. The multi-disciplined creative is known for his music production, song writing, vibrant performances, and eclectic aesthetic style. This contributed to his appointment as artistic director for Louis Vuitton’s men’s collections in February 2023, a move that disrupted the fashion world and preceded appointments of numerous cultural figures to the heads of other luxury maisons.
Born in 1973 in Virginia, US, Pharrell Williams rose to prominence as part of the music producing team the Neptunes, as a member of the band N.E.R.D., a solo artist, and a songwriter, creating music for films including the animation ‘Despicable Me’ in 2013. Along with branching out into acting, Williams entered the world of fashion with projects including the clothing lines Billionaire Boys Club and Ice Cream, which he worked on in collaboration with Japanese creative Nigo, as well as creating a unisex fragrance with the perfume division of Comme des Garçons before joining Louis Vuitton.
