Tampa-native Amaria releases her debut album Free Fallin’. The album, which was introduced with previously-released singles “Beggin’” and “Back to Me,” channels auras and attitudes from distinct eras throughout R&B’s celebrated history and spins them into a contemporary study of the genre that intertwines with her love of indie music. Equally inspired by the likes of Erykah Badu and Jill Scott as she is by Tame Impala and Lianne La Havas, Amaria writes earnest lyrics about the new experiences of her present moment, coming off of her first-ever tour, moving to LA and analyzing how she’s grown.
The album’s title is emblematic of its central theme, encapsulating the feeling of “going through different life experiences without a safety net,” and mirroring how music found her in the first place after uploading an experimental self-produced single (“Morning”) to Soundcloud and being blown away by the reaction. “Morning” was followed by a steady flow of singles and collaborations, along with 2021 EP Bittersweet, and 2022’s All For You EP. Having toured with notable contemporary alternative R&B artists like UMI, Mac Ayers and Destin Conrad (with whom she collaborated on her EP track “All For You” and joined on a 30+ tour run earlier this year), Amaria successfully sold out her first-ever headline show last November in Los Angeles.
