Hardleg radio has officially took over all across the country. Where are the female rappers? Foxy Brown, Lil Kim, Nikki Minaj, Shawnna, and…., a hundred or so others go hard yet haven’t made a major dent recently in the industry. The better question is where are the female rap fans? Sex sells, but it won’t sell rap albums to the opposite sex, neither will gangsta talk. Conforming to the music you expect out of most male rappers probably isn’t the answer either. Someone might feel like less of a man (right or wrong) if their partner caught them bumping a female’s cd, or might feel like they have to explain themselves. We got love for the ladies, but we’re different.  Are all the ladies wrapped up in R&B songs?, or maybe they don’t like the way their ..significant other talks about the female artist. Is there some sort of underlying hate going on? At the beginning the odds are stacked pretty high against female artists but having a few rush to the forefront might give the game a different energy. The solution is simple, talk to the ladies. There is no voice for women in the game, someone to tell the average girls struggles, pains, conflicts, rises, accomplishments and be able to deliver it in a relatable manner without sounding like one of the women on “The View”. Candace Parker can’t be Lebron James, but she sure is a great Candace Parker. When female artists speak to and for females they’ll create the resurgence that seems like it may never come. There are other issues like groupies, gold diggers,…etc., that add additional burdens for female MC’s winning over male fans, but you have to start somewhere, and one opinion says to start with the ladies, without degrading them.
