The Rap Bar Exam
Filter -A device which separates a suspended, dissolved, or particulate matter from a fluid, solution…. or other substance any device that separates one substance from another. Imagine a filter for rap. Who would make it through? What would be the filter? A rap bar exam. How would it work? The bar would be graded in seven different areas,on a scale of 1-7 for every category.
1.Consistency - how many of their songs do you skip/skim through, how many throw away fill in bars do they have?
2.Potentcy - Are they an abc rapper, mediocre or is their wordplay superior?
3.Relevance - What are you saying? Can people relate to your music years after you drop it, or is it trend music.
4. Originality - There isn’t much we haven’t heard already so this is a definite area that new artist have to thrive in, and older artist have to continue to find a way to recreate the magic with lofty expectations.
5.Appeal - What is their fanbase like? Are people drawn to them? Do they have swagger?
6. Range - How many different subjects are you talking about and how many audiences are you reaching?
7. Live show - Are you a studio rapper or is your show something people spend their last dollar on? True MC or polished gimmick?
