THE BLAME GAME

Imagine hearing the doorbell at a friend’s house. You answer the door and tell your friend someone is there for him. When he gets to the door he gets punched in the face. Furious he yells and screams at you saying it’s all your fault. “You shouldn’t have opened the door”. This is a typical example of how the blame game works. Instead of getting mad at the person who just swole his jaw up he takes his anger out on his friend. He more than likely would’ve got punched regardless, how is it your fault? You didn’t tell the guy to hit him. The same kinds of tactics go on in the music industry.  Many people want to point the finger at ringtone rappers for hip hop’s economic slide. Do dance songs make kids pick up guns and pretend to be gangster? Who does it harm? If you don’t like it don’t buy it or listen to it. Someone had to download the ringers for them to exist. The real problem isn’t the terrible music we hear on the radio but the lack of good music being made. Everyone talks about how bad the problem is, or how much they hate it but no one tries to come up with a solution. Others would like to blame the lack of actual rapping for the decline. Do you really like to hear good lyrics, if so then why not more support for Lupe, Buddens and other lyrically superb artist? People also like to make comments on the ignorance on the internet, if you weren’t watching they wouldn’t be acting so ridiculous. Sometimes you just have to be realistic. Hip-Hop can’t be dead. There are people who get paid just to come up with promotional strategies for a song. A hit single could mean a new job for producers, managers, street teams, internet monitors, and much more. With job creation numbers like that how could hip-hop be dead? True we’re not buying as many wack albums but artist are touring, doing shows and movies, dropping clothing lines, doing plays and all kinds of things. So who should we blame for the decline? What decline? It may be harder to sell cd’s but there is still a lot of money to be made as soon as we stop playing the blame game.
