Not Amused….Welcome to the Drought
Fuckery…. trying hard to highlight some of the music industry’s bright spots, yet there is a consistently overwhelming amount of fuckery. Flop here, wack freestyle there, ridiculous beef in between, along with the smoke/swagathons and internet stars.. a bright spot is hard to find. Tight jeans, exquisite hairstyles like women, along with the complimentary accesories and online bickering, the game aint what it used to be. A few rappers have decent wordplay but if you have half an iq you walk away from 90% of today’s music unimpressed. If this is a billion dollar industry why are rappers still “supposedly” selling drugs (maybe something else isn’t selling) ? Artist have used rap to tap into other forms of entertainment, which is cool, but once you lose your foundation of relevance your other endeavors don’t matter. Who would buy clothes from Chingy (no disrespect intended) right now? If you offer an opinion that’s not favorable of a rapper it’s called hating. The word recoup is a laughing matter for new artist. Welcome to the drought. Nothing but regular, stepped on, and flex packs. Rappers are singing, experimenting with other genres, and becoming everything else but rappers (fashion designers, actors, etc..) to try to maintain relevance. No potent, then here comes the innovation, sort of like sprayed weed and unheard of deals. What is the cure for a drought? WORK!, not just a trickle of rain here and there, but a flood. A flood of potency is the only hope for an end to the fuckery. Artist who don’t mind if their girl looks better, music with no irrelevant bars, fewer collaborations, and less focus on what rappers are doing outside of rap. Let the movie/fashion/business people reward those efforts, this game is about MUSIC. A lack of focus on the music is the reason the industry is at it’s current point. Has the game climaxed? It’s a very real possibility that the Music Industry’s better days for music are behind them. With the current state of things in the world, classic albums should be dropping left and right, yet the radio is still a fashion show of bragging, dancing, and being gangsta. Rumors are hurting the game. Mixtapes are hurting the game, probably wondering how huh? Mixtapes while providing an outlet for artist to shine.. oversaturate the market. You drown out every new single with countless freestyles and remixes, you make your album less desireable (a good mixtape can build the hype, it also gives fans enough to sit on, so they often don’t make decisions on buying albums until after they’ve heard them) it also takes away from the classics as people can often get more familiar with the recent version they’ve heard. Jay-Z, Nas, Outkast, Common, Ice Cube, Busta Rhymes, and Eminem to name a few were all popular during the same period or close to it with completely different styles. Today the game is uniform, no real difference in an artist. It’s like only watching the Lakers and expecting a 360 from Kobe to be spectacular, if you see it enough no matter how great it is it’ll lose it’s flair. Your favorite food wouldn’t last long if you ate it everyday, so the punchline.. brag, swag and act bad music doesn’t excite you like it used to. Albums aren’t getting played more than a year after they drop for the most part. Welcome to the drought. The chances of rain are slim but there is a chance. For such a “booming” entertainment industry a lot of fans are simply not amused.
