Dreamworld

What did you wake up to this morning? Was it breakfast and coffee, cereal and sportscenter, or bad news and oatmeal? When was the last time someone got killed in your neighborhood? a house broken into? How often do you see pregnant teenagers in your neighborhood? Do you have streetlights? It’s hard to comprehend hip-hop coming from the “dreamworld”. When you’re born into opportunity deserved or not, and have resources available at the tip of your fingers it’s hard to understand what people in the real world go through. People try to use the few examples that make it out to say “if they could do it, you could”, but that’s not really true.  How easy is it to say no to drugdealing when your lights and water are off, and your refigerator is empty?

Everyone can do the right thing in a position of comfort, but what about those who start ten steps behind? Chastising is pretty much all I’ve seen anyone offer up, and that’ll fall on deaf ears, probably make them want to rebel more. These same people never reach out and try to communicate with these artist, yet they have no problem attacking them. People are just trying to take care of their families, if you feel as if someone’s doing something wrong offer another way. After years of complaining one thing remains the same, the “problem”. Who can’t tell you a tire is flat?, can you help them fix it though?

I heard one reporter refer to Chris Brown as a hip-hop artist in attempt to further smear the genre. Change the enviroment and the music will change. Create more jobs, give offenders a second chance, educate young children on the consequences of their choices, reward kids who excel in the classroom and not just in sports, and you’d have less vulgar issues to listen to. Hip-hop is a reminder to the “dreamworld” of what life is like outside their paramaters. I can’t say any artist deserves to be defended for their music, but without offering help they shouldn’t be judged either.
