Geffen Records Names New President of Urban A&R

Geffen Records has named Aaron “Dash” Sherrod president of urban A&R. In the newly created role, Dash will oversee its signing and development strategy for the artists on Geffen’s hip-hop and R&B roster. He will operate under the company leadership of Geffen Records President Tom March and Interscope Geffen A&M Chairman John Janick.

Though he comes to Geffen from an svp of A&R role at RCA Records, Dash previously worked in the Interscope Geffen A&M family. His latest gig serves as a homecoming for the A&R and, as Dash puts it, “a blessing from God.” Starting in 2015, Dash worked as Interscope’s vp of A&R where he signed some of the label’s greatest breakthroughs of the 2010s, including Playboi Carti, Juice WRLD, and Pierre Bourne.

Janick says of the new appointment, “over the years Dash has shown an impressive acumen at identifying, signing and developing hugely talented artists. I’m excited to have him on the Geffen team.”

March adds, “Dash is an enormously talented A&R executive who brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience. I’m looking forward to working alongside him at Geffen.”

Outside of his work at Interscope Geffen A&M, Sherrod is best known for signing Nardo Wick to RCA and working early-on with talents like 808 Mafia, DJ Toomp, Lil Bibby, G Herbo, and A$AP Rocky. Dash is also a notable creative in his own right and has worked as a composer, engineer, video director, manager, and executive producer for the Judas and the Black Messiah soundtrack over the course of his career.

“Dash is without a doubt one of the most talented, knowledgeable and creative A&R executives with whom I’ve ever worked. His singular vision and deep relationships within the creative community will be hugely beneficial to our artists and our Geffen team,” says Nicole Wyskoarko, evp and co-head of A&R at Interscope Geffen A&M.

“I’m happy to be back in the building where it all started, working with John, Nicole and Tom and the entire Geffen team,” says Dash. “Coming up from the Southside of Chicago, dealing with many adversities, to make it to this point is truly a blessing from God. To everyone I ever called for advice, who ever dealt with my highs and lows and helped me in my personal growth, I love you and thank you forever. This is about our legacy. I take this one personally and I can’t wait to make history with Geffen. Everybody deserves a chance to come home.”

The newly anointed president of urban A&R will be based at the UMG headquarters in Santa Monica, Calif.
